A New Jersey mother of a tennis player accused of assault says she is “not happy” with the way the media responded to her daughter’s allegations.
In a post on her blog, Linda Williams said her daughter, Serene, was raped at a party on Dec. 16 at her brother’s home in New Jersey.
Williams said her sister, who is a tennis star, was drinking at the party and was at a point where she thought she would leave.
She said she left, but she was approached by two men who asked if she wanted to go to the bathroom.
Williams said she asked one of the men to leave and was confronted by another man.
When the men asked Williams to take a shower, Williams said they began touching her and trying to rape her.
Williams was wearing only a bikini top, and her brother told her not to be afraid.
She says they pushed her down and began to pull her underwear off.
Williams, who says she never reported the assault to police, said she called her mother, who was home at the time, and was told to get a cab and not come to the party.
Williams is also the daughter of the late former tennis great Roger Federer.
Williams’ blog post comes days after Serena, 21, was charged with fourth-degree assault, third-degree harassment and third-year criminal trespass.
She posted $100,000 bail and was released Monday.
The charges were later dropped.
